The N11 Gorey to Arklow Link forms part of Euroroute E01.
The route has been identified in the National Roads Needs Study 1998 and the National
Development Plan (2000-2006) as requiring upgrading. The route extends from approximately
3 km south of the village of Clogh, Co. Wexford to the southern junction of the Arklow
By-pass at Coolnadangan, Co. Wicklow.
Wexford County Council are the lead authority for this scheme and have entered into an
agreement with Wicklow County Council to allow them to carry out all administrative
functions in relation to this scheme.
The design and preparation of statutory procedures for this scheme are being prepared
by Tramore House Regional Design Office on behalf of Wexford County Council.
The Route selection process was carried out during 1998 - 2000. A number of
alternatives were examined and after extensive public consultation a recommendation for
the preferred route was made to Wexford Co Co in October 2000. This preferred route was
adopted by the Council members at a full council meeting in October.
The scheme comprises approximately 23km of dual carraigeway that will become the new
N11 National Primary Route. The existing N11 shall be reclassified as a local or regional
route. The scheme also includes approximately 2km of single carraigeway that will link the
existing N11 to the western roundabout of the grade separated junction at the southern end
of the Arklow By-pass at Coolnadangan. Thus an alternative route shall be available
between Gorey and Arklow.
A Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) have been
prepared and were published on the 8th October and 15th October respectively.
A copy of the EIS text and CPO Deposited Maps are available for download in the Reports
section of this website.
