The N24 forms part of the Western Corridor that links the West of Ireland with the port of Rosslare. The National Development Plan (2000-2006) includes major improvements on the Western Corridor. In accordance with this plan, the section of the N24 between Pallasgreen and Bansha is to be improved. Tramore House Regional Design Office were commissioned to carry out the route selection process through to the preparation of documentation for the statutory and contract procedures. The scheme initially commenced as a Tipperary By-Pass extending from Bansha to Monard. A decision was taken early in the process that the scheme should extend to incorporate a by-pass of Pallasgreen. As a result the scheme includes two Local Authorities, South Tipperary and Limerick County Councils. South Tipperary Co Co are the lead authority for the administration of the scheme.. In accordance with the NRA Project Management Guidelines, a number of public consultations have been held in relation to this scheme. The first display was held in July 1999, showing possible corridors for the Tipperary By-Pass. As the scheme was extended a further public consultation was held in February 2000, showing the now extended study area. In July 2000 a public consultation was held showing three feasible corridors extending from Pallasgreen to Bansha. In April 2001, the final public consultation was held displaying the preferred route. The preferred route is based on a combination of all three feasible routes shown at the earlier display. Comments in relation to the preferred route were invited from the public in relation to this route. A Draft Route Selection Report has been submitted to the County Councils and the NRA for their comments. The Report will be finalised on receipt of their comments. The selected route will be put on public display in accordance with Part XI of the Planning and Development Act 2000. |
