N11 / N25 OILGATE TO ROSSLARE HARBOUR SCHEME |

Phase 1 Overall Project Planning The National Development Plan for the period 2000-2006 proposes major improvements to the Western and the North/South Strategic Corridors which link Dublin, Cork and Limerick to Rosslare Harbour. The existing N25 from Wexford to Rosslare Harbour forms part of these strategic corridors. Wexford County Council have identified the need to upgrade the section of the N25 leading into Rosslare Europort. Babtie Pettit consultants have been appointed to define a study area, generate route corridors and identify a preferred route for the scheme. The Project Manager for the scheme is based in Tramore House Regional Design Office. Phase 2 Constraints Study A first public information day, showing the study area for the scheme, was held in December 2000 in Hotel Rosslare. Over 200 people attended this information day, and written submissions were received from approximately 55 parties. Following this information day a constraints study has been carried out within the study area and a Draft Constraints Study Report prepared. This Draft Report has identified any engineering or environmental constraints to route corridor development. Following from the Report, five route corridors have been identified for the scheme. A Public Information day for these route corridors was held in Tuskar House Hotel on 18th April 2001. Approximately 209 people attended this information day. Brochures and Questionnaires were available at the information day for public information and feedback. The final Constraints Study Report is published, and is available for public inspection in Wexford County Hall and Tramore House. The Report is also available for purchase at a cost of 32 euro. Phase 3 Route Selection More detailed engineering, environmental and economic studies have now been carried out on the five route corridors in order to identify a preferred route for the scheme. The preferred route which has been identified is the orange route as shown on the Route Selection Brochure which is available on this website. A public consultation for the preferred route was held during the week 18th to 22nd February 2002 in Rosslare Europort. All landowners directly affected by the preferred route had individual meetings with the project team over a two-day period, and the display was open to the public for a further two-day period. Brochures including questionnaires were available at the display for public information and to facilitate comment on the preferred route. The display was then moved to Wexford library where it was on display for a one-month period. Any comments received during the consultation period are currently being assessed before the Route Selection Report is finalised in July. Some amendments to the displayed preferred route may be necessary during this period as a result of consultations. Once the Route Selection Report has been approved and published, the Preferred Route will form the basis for the publication of a Compulsory Purchase Order, which may lead to the need for an Oral Hearing. Future Programme The budget allocated to this project for 2002 will ensure that the Route Selection Report can be finalised. Without allocations at this time for future years it is not possible to accurately predict a programme for the project. However, it may be helpful to have an indicative timetable and this is shown on the dates and details page for this project. |
